Calacatta marble endured unimaginable heat, pressure, and time to become what it is. The veining, the density, the porosity, each a record of that journey, and each determining how the stone responds to everything that touches it.
When that understanding is missing, the result looks acceptable. Until it doesn’t. The depth goes first. Then the clarity. The surface that once felt like light moving through it begins to look like a photograph of itself.
The heritage homes lining this shoreline have been breathing lake air since the early 1900s. Stone breathes too, breathing in with the humidity, breathing out with the dry. In homes this close to the water, that cycle is constant. That moisture pulls minerals to the surface over time, leaving a white powdery residue that no amount of wiping removes, because it isn’t on the stone. It’s coming from within it. Understanding that process is the difference between a restoration that lasts and one that looks good for a season.
